Megaproject alert: Is Dubai getting a skyscraper hanging from an asteroid?

The Analemma Tower also aims to be constructed in New York.

Dubai is home to some mind-boggling megaprojects. Now, The Clouds Architecture Office has announced plans for an out of this world idea – a skyscraper hanging upside down from an asteroid. The Analemma Tower aims to first be constructed in Dubai and then in New York.

The Analemma Tower would hold apartments, and be accessible by a drone. Instead of being built from the ground up, it would be built from an asteroid down. An asteroid would be placed into orbit over the earth, and a high-strength cable would be lowered into the surface. The tall tower would then be suspended in the air, and it could hang anywhere in the world.

The asteroid skyscraper would rely on the earth’s orbit and return to the same place in the sky each day between the northern and southern hemispheres. Due to its elevated structure, it would be 32,000 metres high, and people would not be able to go outside without a protective suit.

The Clouds Architecture Office have faith in the design, and believe it can come from science-fiction ideas into reality. They stated: “Going back to the earliest known structures, we can see a clear pattern emerging. We are in the process of dislodging ourselves from the planet’s surface.”

If completed, The Analemma Tower’s asteroid skyscraper would be considered the world’s tallest building. It would then take over the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, which stands at 2,722 feet high.
