Award-winning musical Les Misérables arrives in Abu Dhabi

Pre-sale tickets for the Etihad Arena show will go live next week.

Abu Dhabi, it’s time to dream a dream. One of the world’s longest-running musicals is coming to the capital. Les Misérables in Abu Dhabi will take place at Etihad Arena and runs from 10 to 20 April 2025.

Etihad Arena will host 12 performances of Les Misérables over the course of 10 days featuring a cast and orchestra of over 65 people. Les Misérables is based on Victor Hugo’s novel of the same name. Set in the early nineteenth century, the story follows Jean Valjean. The French peasant steals a loaf of bread and is imprisoned for 19 years. As he is on the hunt for redemption, he adopts the orphan, Cosette.

In 1985, Les Misérables made its debut in the West End, London. The show, produced by Cameron Mackintosh, originally had negative reviews. It wasn’t until Diana, Princess of Wales, visited the show that it caught the public’s attention. Today, it has been performed across the world and won multiple awards.

Les Misérables’ is a sung-through musical and includes world-famous songs, which have been reimagined on film as well as reality TV shows – anyone remember Susan Boyle on the UK TV show, Britain’s Got Talent? The songs include Bring Him Home, Master of the House, On My Own, and One More Day.

If you want to familiarise yourself with the show, watch the 2012 film adaptation. Tom Hooper directed the Oscar-winning film, which includes a star-studded cast including Anne Hathaway, Amanda Seyfried, Eddie Redmayne, Hugh Jackman, and Russell Crowe.

If you love the theatre, Life of Pi will run from 15 to 17 November and Elf The Musical runs from 14 to 15 December. Both shows will take place at Etihad Arena, Yas Island.

Pre-sale tickets to Les Misérables in Abu Dhabi will go live on 14 October, whereas general sales will commence on 17 October.
